What Are The Benefits Of Dentures?

In addition to restoring your bite and smile, a custom-made set of full or partial dentures offers several benefits, including:

  • Improving speech
  • Restoring facial symmetry
  • Creating a more youthful look
  • Allowing you to eat more foods
  • Maintaining gum health
  • Preserving bone density
  • Offering fixed or removable options

Who is a Candidate for Dentures?

Ideal candidates for dentures are missing most or all of their teeth, but the jawbone and gums are generally healthy. During a consultation, Dr. Tozzi can determine which implant option is best for your needs. For example, your natural teeth can be extraced for a full denture or kept in place as a support denture. Implant-supported dentures are for patients who are unable to wear temporary dentures comfortably or who want a more secure solution.

There are many reasons why someone may need dentures, including:

  • Significant tooth loss due to advanced gum disease or decay
  • Trauma or injury resulting in multiple missing teeth
  • Genetic conditions that affect the development of teeth
  • Severe wear and tear on remaining natural teeth leading to functionality issues
  • Age-related tooth loss

What to Expect During your denture treatment plan

Prior to any treatment, Dr. Tozzi will conduct a comprehensive dental exam to better understand the condition, strength, and overall health of your oral structures. This is especially crucial if you are considering implant-supported dentures. If your gums or jawbone are too weak to hold dental implants, then a bone and/or gum graft may be necessary. Dr. Tozzi will create a custom treatment plan that suits your specific needs and goals. Once a plan is constructed, we will schedule your appointment. The treatment plan will look different for those who are receiving full or partial dentures versus implant-supported dentures. However, regardless of the type of dentures you receive, they will be colored to match the exact shade of your existing teeth for a seamless finish.

How Long is Recovery After getting dentures?

Once your dentures are placed, our team will go over instructions on how to best care and clean for your fixtures. If you have removable dentures, these fixtures will need to be soaked whenever you take them out to prevent them from drying out. We also encourage our patients to keep up with their yearly dental exams and biannual cleanings to maintain optimal oral health. During your visits, Dr. Tozzi can examine the fit and wear of your restorations to determine if any maintenance is necessary.  With proper care, your custom dentures should last for a very long time.

Will Insurance Cover dentures?

If you have dental insurance, part of the expenses of your dentures will typically be paid for. Our office will talk to your provider to determine your benefits and personal expenses. At your first appointment with Dr. Tozzi, she will personalize your treatment so your dentures fit both your needs and budget. For help making your dentures affordable, whether you have dental insurance or not, Michaela Tozzi, DMD accepts several payment methods, including low-interest medical financing.

Dentures FAQs

Will my dentures look natural?

Yes, they will. Dr. Tozzi will make sure that partial dentures match the color and shade of your natural teeth. For full dentures, she will choose a tooth size, shape, and shade that both look natural and fit your overall facial aesthetics.

What exactly is a partial denture?

When patients are missing too many teeth to be replaced with a dental bridge, Dr. Tozzi can create a partial denture. A partial denture replaces your missing teeth and will match the color of the surrounding teeth and the color of your gums to fit seamlessly into your natural smile. In addition to allowing you to eat, smile, and talk normally, wearing a partial denture will help preserve the health of the surrounding teeth and gums.

Are there other options than removable dentures?

Dr. Tozzi also offers dental implants which can replace one or multiple teeth. Dental implants are permanent replacements that don't come out. You may also opt to have implant-supported dentures. These can replace multiple teeth or all of your teeth with a full or partial denture that is permanently affixed in your mouth with titanium posts implanted into your jaw.

Are dental implants painful?

No, the procedure itself is not painful as Dr. Tozzi numbs the treatment area beforehand. You may experience some discomfort and soreness for several days after the procedure, but this should subside with time and over-the-counter pain relievers. Implant-supported dentures are often preferred because the titanium posts keep the denture in place for safe and long-lasting results.

Which type of denture is best for me?

This depends on your individual needs and goals. Dr. Tozzi will assess your dental health, evaluate the remaining teeth, and discuss your desired outcomes before recommending the best way to proceed with dentures. We also take into consideration factors that may affect the fit and stability of your dentures, such as jawbone structure or existing oral health issues.

Fixed or removable Dentures

Fixed or removable dentures can restore the appearance of your smile and allow you to eat and speak with more confidence. Reach out to Michaela Tozzi, DMD in Henderson, NV to set up a private consultation with Dr. Tozzi. She can review all of your options and answer any questions you may have so you can make well-informed decisions. Our overall goal is to help Las Vegas men and women regain both the health and appearance of their smile.
