Am I a good candidate for teeth whitening?

There are significant benefits to receiving a professional-grade teeth-whitening treatment vs. over-the-counter solutions. The results are often faster, more effective, and longer-lasting. During your initial consultation, Dr. Tozzi will go over all of your questions and cosmetic goals to help determine which teeth-whitening treatment may be best for you. Patients can also opt for both an in-office treatment and at-home care kit for even more dramatic results. Regardless of what you decide, Dr. Tozzi will customize your treatment to suit your personal needs.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM in-office teeth Whitening?

Patients can choose from Zoom WhiteSpeed or QuickPro in-office treatments to restore their smile. For fast improvements, QuickPro is great at removing surface stains caused by drinks, foods, and tobacco products. Zoom WhiteSpeed also treats surface enamel stains and severely discolored or yellow teeth. Regardless of the treatment you choose, all in-office sessions will be performed after a thorough dental cleaning has been completed. This will eliminate tartar and plaque buildup to ensure the whitening treatment adheres properly to your teeth.

For Zoom QuickPro, the enamel is coated with whitening varnish, followed by a protective sealant. Once your teeth have been evenly coated, you may go home. After 30 minutes, you can brush your teeth and remove the varnish.

For Zoom WhiteSpeed, a whitening gel will be applied to your enamel. Once the teeth are covered, a light will be used to accelerate the whitening treatment. This will be completed three times for a total treatment time of about 45 minutes. Any remaining gel will be removed from your teeth before a post-treatment gel is applied to reduce sensitivity and strengthen your teeth.

How does at-home teeth whitening work?

We offer several Opalescence treatment options to suit your unique needs. Opalescence is a safe and effective at-home system that utilizes a potassium nitrate and fluoride (PF) formula to protect and brighten your teeth. An Opalescence treatment can provide significant improvement if you have considerable teeth discoloration and/or food stains. Patients can choose from Opalescence PF or Opalescence Go.

Opalescence PF is a whitening kit that will be used with custom-made mouth trays. The trays may be worn for as few as half an hour or while you sleep for as long as eight hours.

Opalescence Go is another at-home treatment that uses pre-filled mouth trays, which should be worn 15 – 90 minutes every day for 1 – 2 weeks.

WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE AFTER in-office teeth whitening?

Whether you undergo in-office or at-home treatments, most patients generally experience increased sensitivity to hot and/or cold beverages, but this usually subsides within a few days following your care regimen. When the primary treatment is finished, we generally recommend coming back for touch-ups a few times a year to maintain your results. We also encourage patients to keep up with their annual dental exams and biannual cleanings to ensure optimal oral health. Keep in mind that simply because your teeth are white does not necessarily indicate that they're in perfect health. That's why regular examinations are still necessary. You'll also receive detailed instructions concerning what foods and/or beverages should be limited or avoided altogether to prevent future stains and discoloration.

WILL INSURANCE COVER MY teeth whitening?

Since teeth whitening is considered optional and cosmetic in nature, it is not usually covered by dental insurance companies. Nonetheless, our expert billing team can assess your dental coverage to determine if any part of your dental appointment is covered by your insurance to reduce the cost. If you don't carry dental insurance, then we will be happy to speak with you about our payment choices, as well as the potential for attaining low-interest medical financing.
